A plethora of emotions greets the readers in On Earth We’re briefly Gorgeous. As I dived deeper into the book, I felt like a thick blanket woven with dark threads of pain, agony, despair, grief, sadness, regrets, loss intertwined with the bright threads of first love, pride, belonging and acceptance enveloping me tightly.
☕
The book is a lyrical magic show. Little dog and his family moved to a new country in order to escape from the hands of invaders who plundered their homeland.
☕
A part memoir, the protagonist recalls the stories of horror embedded in the bones of two war survivors like an old pain which hurts badly after the appearance of black clouds. The trauma of war doesn’t end with the person but it’s effect can be felt for generations. Little Dog talks about first love, passion, pain, secrets & arduous struggles to gain acceptance.
☕
His words came like a trickle on the glass window slow but steady hitting home and sometimes like a downpour on a tin shed full of holes flooding the home and the heart.
☕
Little dog’s grief, my tears mixed together in the shower of emotions hammered my heart now and then.Flooding my cheeks without a restraint I realised how much sadness can seep into the cells of a being and can be felt through the generations.
Moments of joy, small achievements and love can last a lifetime once locked in memory jar of heart.
☕
This book needs to be read, savored and feel the wholesome bites of overwhelming emotions. I couldn’t help but read it again to devour the pain and joy seeping in between the lines, in the shared silences and small gestures.
☕
Heartbreaking & haunting, the characters are hard to forget. One of its kind, On Earth We’re briefly Gorgeous is an unparalleled beauty.
I would highly recommend this book to all the readers.
